Ambrose Bierce Birthday Bash

Description: Great American writer Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce was born 170 years ago on June 24, 1842. This June 24 (last Sunday in June) the Stephen Crane House (508 4th Avenue, Asbury Park) will commemorate this milestone with an Ambrose Bierce Brief Biography and Birthday Bash. After a short introduction to Bierce and his works at 3 PM and a filmed presentation of Bierce's Civil War story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge� (alas, not the Twilight Zone episode), we will screen at 4 PM “Old Gringo�, Based on Carlos Fuentes's novel about the last days of the great author who left for Mexico in 1913 and was thereafter lost to history. The two hour film is from 1989, somewhat violent and adult (accounting for its adult situation R rating) and stars the great Gregory Peck, then a septuagenarian, as well as Jane Fonda and Jimmy Smits. As usual, there is no admittance charge, but any and all donations by check or in cash will go to the Asbury Park Little League. American Stare

Description: American Stare is the newest play from award-winning playwright Tony Glazer & directed by Evan Bergman (Jericho, Poetic License). Set in a trailer park in South Florida, this world premiere dark comedy, mines the visceral anger of the disenfranchised lower class. Following the spiraling lives of a widowed woman and her pit-bull, a disabled child-predator, and a couple with their teenage daughter, we are challenged to see the world through their eyes -- a world led by a broken moral compass and tainted with the pervasiveness of special interests. Description: Yoga on the Beach for Beginners Sunday, June 24, 2012 9:30 AM Cliffwod Beach Aberdeen Township 828 Ocean Boulevard, Keyport, NJ (edit map) Park at the beachside lot, go to back end follow trail onto beach, we are on the left Selected By: Cassie How many of you are like me and always wanted to try Yoga but are overweight, underflexible, or just plain worried about trying to get your body to move? Well this is a yoga class that you can call your own! My friend Nancy has come up with a program that works with any body no matter the size, shape or mobilty, it's excellent for those who wish to take yoga/stretch for the first time. She teaches using slow, mindful movements and positions that anyone can get into. We are going to meet at my Cliffwood Beach if the weather is nice (as with any outdoor event please check in here before heading out and look for updates) Now that hot weathere is here we thought this would be better in the morning on Sundays. If you use a GPS be sure to type in Ocean Boulevard or it will take you to Union Beach by mistake. Cost of each class is going to be $10, payable in cash the night of. Please bring a yoga mat that you don't mind putting down on the sand or beach towel or blanket and water, also bug spray is not a bad idea either and or a candle, sometimes we have bugs sometimes we don't but thats the outdoors for ya. You can log in 2 hrs before event the day of to check the weather, and please be curteous if you can't come please change your rsvp timely. I do hope many of you who have always wanted to try yoga but were afraid to like me comes and gives it a try, this has become a regular thing! I would probably do it again. The instructor was great.~ ~I feel so....Zen. Still trying to keep my abs active and my shoulders back and down. Nancy did a wonderful job of explaning everything. I liked how she gave alternatives for positions so that everyone in the group could participate. This was my very first yoga session, and I enjoyed it tremendously~
