Location: Bands On A Budget

Description: I’ve been painting most of my life; my Mom got me started when she used me as a model for displays at Monmouth Museum. Watching her recreate the world through her own perception and skill planted the seed of my art. Recently my focus has been an interaction with the local music scene. For five years I have been setting up canvas at music venues and painting immediate emotive responses to the sound. From the moment the band takes the stage, till the last flap of applause, I create a visual expression of our shared experience. I’ve painted for musicians like Levon Helm, Moe. and Rusted Root to local favorites such as Status Green, Last Perfect Thing and the Sex Zombies. It has been an honor to be allowed access to local landmarks like: The Stone Pony, Brighton Bar, The Saint, and Convention Hall, as well as numerous restaurants, outdoor events and festivals all around the east coast. These fast and furious events have taught me that some of the best work comes when we are given no time for contemplation. Completing a painting in one hour from blank canvas without forethought has probably taught me more about concept and execution than any amount of lessons or life studies.
