Description: With jazz lovers in mind, we're kicking off a new tradition at the shore, ASBURY PARK LOVES JAZZ WEEKEND , a three-day weekend of jazz scheduled for August 7th-9th, 2015 in historic Asbury Park. This weekend promises to bring back the glory days of a music scene that once featured the hippest jazz music played anywhere. Add to that a beach weekend on the Asbury Waterfront and you've got sizzle! Asbury Park has a rich history of Jazz - drawing icons such as Duke Ellington who first visited in 1912 as a young teenager. Count Basie, a Red Bank native, who played Mrs. Jay's Beer Garden in the 1930's - long before it became the Stone Pony. Asbury Park's west side clubs on Springwood Avenue were home to one of the most vibrant jazz scenes between 1910-1970. Just announced, the roster of live entertainment for the Asbury Park LOVES Jazz Weekend is a great mix of today's top jazz musicians as well as artists creating the next generation of jazz history. A panel discussion on Saturday afternoon will discuss luminaries of jazz in Asbury Park. Live music including Sympathetic Resonance with Karen Lee, Island Motion Calypso with Desi Norman and Boardwalk Jazz with PJ Rassmusen as well as Valerie Adams and the Dimensions Band will fill the heart of downtown Asbury Park from our tent garden at Press Plaza. Both are free and open to the public. Description: Dick Dale has been voted No. 31 among Rolling Stone's 100 greatest rock guitarists of all time. Dick incorporated staccato picking and mid-eastern scales into a sonic mix which became his trademark. In 1961 he released Let's Go Trippin, acknowledged as the very first recorded surf instrumental. In 1994 his classic Miserlou was chosen as the opening theme of Quentin Tarantino's blockbuster Pulp Fiction. Dick Dale is truly and without a doubt an American original. Description: Our signature fall festival takes place in mid-September and is a family-friendly culinary & music event. The festival is our largest. The festival draws 20,000 visitors from NJ counties north and south of Asbury Park as well as NYC & Philadelphia. The event is held just outside the iconic Carousel building where the downtown meets the Asbury Park waterfront. Friday, September 11, 2015 from 5PM - 10PM Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 12PM - 10PM Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 12PM - 6PM
