River Road Books
5/29/2013
Location: Fair Haven, NJ
Description: FAIR HAVEN, NJ - On Wednesday, May 29, 2013, River Road Books in Fair Haven will partner with the Monmouth County Historical Association to host award-winning and best-selling author Nathaniel Philbrick as he discusses his newest book Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution. The author will give a presentation at 7:00pm at the Nauvoo Grill located at 121 Fair Haven Road in Fair Haven. Light refreshments will be served and a cash bar will be available.
In Bunker Hill Mr. Philbrick, author of In the Heart of the Sea (Winner of the National Book Award), and Mayflower, tells the story that ignited the American Revolution. In its review, The Boston Globe notes that Philbrick has written a "Boston" book and furthermore, "a masterpiece of narrative and perspective by an author who has helped us look anew at the voyage of the Mayflower and the passage of George Armstrong Custer.
Another Philbrick book which we especially like here at Asbury Pulp is Why Read Moby-Dick? We even took a road trip this past December to the city where Moby-Dick author Herman Melville began the book's narrative -and his own journey of adult life. (Come along here.)
In this volume, his publisher writes, "Moby-Dick is perhaps the greatest of the Great American Novels, yet its length and esoteric subject matter create an aura of difficulty that too often keeps readers at bay. Fortunately, one unabashed fan wants passionately to give Melville's masterpiece the broad contemporary audience it deserves. Philbrick skillfully navigates Melville's world and illuminates the book's humor and unforgettable characters-finding the thread that binds Ishmael and Ahab to our own time and, indeed, to all times."
The discussion with Nathaniel Philbrick is free with the purchase of a book; reservations are required. RSVP to riverroadbooks@verizon.net, or call 732-747-9455.
